Cleaning Your Instrument:

It is recommended that after every use wipe down your instrument, including the strings, with a clean, soft, dry cloth.

For a thorough cleaning, on occasion use a warm damp cloth to remove build up of perspiration, polish, etc.

Polishing should be kept to a minimum to prevent excessive build up on the instrument. Any type of non-silicon guitar polish can be used and applied with a clean soft cloth.

note: Ordinary cloth diapers make the best cleaning/polishing clothes.

Fingerboard Maintenance:

It is recommended that your fingerboard be cleaned and oiled every six months.

To Clean:

Remove the strings and clean fingerboard using 0000 steel wool.

To Oil:

Be sure to remove all dust and debris caused from cleaning. Using a clean, soft cloth rub a small amount of boiled linseed oil all along the fingerboard.

Maintaining Tuning Machines (open geared machines only):

Lubrication of your tuning machines is recommended once or twice per year.

To Lubricate:

Put a very small amount of household petroleum jelly (i.e. Vaseline) onto the tip of a tooth pick and place it directly onto the gear. Be careful not to use too much because the jelly catches the dust which can wear out the tuning machines.

Storage of Your Instrument:

It is recommended that you store your instrument in its case when not in use. Be conscious of your instruments surroundings. Temperature and humidity can effect your instrument.

Proper Care When Traveling With an Instrument:

It is important to take extra precautions to protect your instrument when traveling.

Traveling By Car:

When traveling by car do not put your instrument in the trunk. There is no control on temperature or ventilation in your trunk. Extreme heat or cold can cause damage to your instrument. It is much safer for your instrument to ride in the back seat. When you leave your vehicle take your instrument with you.

Traveling By Air:

Transporting your instrument on a passenger airline is not recommended. Too many instruments are damaged by this means of travel. It is suggested to ship your instrument by means of commercial air travel (i.e. UPS, Fed EX, etc.).

If you take your instrument on a passenger airline make certain to insure it. Also have your instrument hand carried to and from the airplane. This service should be provided by most airlines.
